"Cedula"

La cédula de ciudadanía es el documento de identificación de los ciudadanos colombianos mayores de 18 años.

Nota: la solicitud por primera vez no tiene costo, es gratuito.

Any Colombian by birth or adoption who is of age may apply by fulfilling the following requirements.

  • Personal attendance
  • Eighteen (18) years of age or more
  • Civil registration of birth and identity card (if any) if he/she is Colombian by birth, holds a certificate of nationality, or a registration resolution if he/she is Colombian by adoption.
  • Three (3) 4 X 5 cm photographs, facing the camera, against a white background and wearing dark clothes. If bald or very blonde the background color must be blue.
  • Rh. factor and blood group.

To verify your citizenship card status and the place of issue, visit the website of the National Registry Office, which is the competent entity responsible for issuing these documents.

If you wish your citizenship card to be sent to a place other than where it was issued, you may request it to be sent, free of cost, by filling out the form available on the Registry’s website at National Registry Office.

Note: This service is free of charge at colombian consulates abroad.

 

Persons living abroad who have held a citizenship card and have lost it or it has been stolen may request a duplicate at a Colombian consulate by fulfilling the following requirements:

  • Personal attendance
  • Citizenship card number
  • Present a document identifying yourself as Colombian
  • Three (3) color photographs cX5 cm., facing the camera, against a white background wearing dark clothes. If bald or whose hair is very light or white, the background must be blue.
  • RH factor and blood group.
  • Voucher for payment of the cost of the duplicate document.

If you wish your citizenship card to be sent to a place other than where it was issued, you may request its transfer, free of cost, by filling out the form available on the Registry’s website at National Registry Office.

  • Electronic payment: On the internet, to use the Electronic Payment System, press the Safe Payments On Line button (see our Citizen’s Guide to EPS). Remember that, in order to pay by EPS, you must have an active account in Colombia with a financial entity which provides electronic payment service.

Means of payment must be verified for each consulate. See the Directory of Consulates.

 

Colombians requiring rectification because of a change in the biographic details on their citizenship card must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Personal attendance
  • Original citizenship card (correction element)
  • Three (3) 4 X 5 cm photographs, facing the camera against a white background wearing dark clothes. If bald or very blonde the background must be blue
  • Updated civil birth certificate showing the biographical data according to which rectification of the citizenship card is requested.
  • RH factor and blood group
  • Payment voucher of the cost of citizenship card rectification.

The Colombian by birth or adoption who is of age, and does not have the certificate on the last valid format "yellow with holograms" may make the request, certifying the following.

Requirements :

  • Appear in person.
  • Provide the number of the identity card 
  • Three photographs of 4x5 cm, taken from the front, in color and white, dark clothing. If no hair or is very clear the background should be blue.
  • Know the RH and Blood Group.

If the person did not remember or do not have the number of the identity card, you need to provide your birth certificate or baptismal certificate, to identify through the registrar record number assigned to the citizen.
