Recognition of an extra-marital son/daughter

A person abroad who requires a public deed of recognition of child born out of wedlock to be drawn up must request it from a Colombian consulate by fulfilling the following requirements:

  • Original and photocopy of the father’s citizenship card
  • Photocopy of the mother’s citizenship card
  • Birth certificate of the minor (an authentic copy of the Civil Registration held by the notary)
  • Letter from the mother authorizing the father to recognize his son/daughter
