Consulado de Colombia en Miami

 

De acuerdo con la Ley 2332 de 2023, los nacionales colombianos que hayan perdido la nacionalidad por haberse naturalizado en otro país antes de la entrada en vigencia de la Constitución Política de 1991 y cuya cédula de ciudadanía se encuentre cancelada en el Archivo Nacional de Identificación - ANI - de la Dirección Nacional de Identificación de la Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil y quienes hayan renunciado a la nacionalidad colombiana conforme lo dispone esta ley, podrán recuperarla de manera voluntaria ante el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores o en los consulados de Colombia en el exterior, cumpliendo los pasos y requisitos legalmente establecidos para el efecto.

Descripción del trámite en el Portal www.gov.co, el portal único para trámites del Estado

 

 

  • Documents issued in countries which are signatories of The Hague Convention on the Abolition of the Requirement for Legalization of Foreign Public Documents of 1961 must have an apostille in accordance with this Convention, otherwise the documents must be authenticated by the competent Colombian consul.
  • Any document in a language other that Spanish must be officially translated and the signature of the translator must be duly legalized or with an apostille.

In Bogotá

Abroad - Consulates

 

 

For Colombians by birth

  • Petition in writing expressing the wish to recover Colombian nationality submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Colombian consulates or Departmental Governments, also stating his/her willingness to support and adhere to the Political Constitution and laws of the Republic of Colombia: if he/she has another nationality, it must be mentioned here. It must be borne in mind that nationality can only be re-acquired two (2) years after the date of the document of renunciation. In addition, he/she must state his/her city of domicile and the address of his/her residence in Colombia, land line telephone, cell/mobile phone number and electronic mail.
  • Photocopy of his/her citizenship card, if possessed, or a copy of his/her civil birth certificate.
  • Four (4) photographs, facing the camera, against a white or blue background, both recent and identical, size 4x5 cm.
  • Statement by the applicant of his/her wish to be notified by electronic mail.
  • Call for attend for notification of the document of recovery of Colombian nationality from the Internal Nationality Working Group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or of the respective consulate or Departmental Government.
  • Applicants may extend this resumption to their children who are minors and are under his/her parental custody and who were born in foreign territory, in order for them to be Colombian by birth, providing they comply with the domiciliary requirement in Colombia or their registration with the Consulate. In addition, they must submit four (4) photographs, facing the camera and against a white or blue background, both recent and identical, size 4x5 cm, of each child.

Applicants are advised to attach a copy of the document of renunciation of Colombian nationality and the document showing the date of acquisition of the other nationality.

 

For Colombians by naturalization

  • Petition in writing expressing the wish to recover Colombian nationality submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Colombian consulates or Departmental Governments, also stating his/her willingness to support and adhere to the Political Constitution and laws of the Republic of Colombia: if he/she has another nationality, it must be mentioned here. It must be borne in mind that nationality can only be re-acquired two (2) years after the date of the document of renunciation. In addition, he/she must state his/her city of domicile and the address of his/her residence in Colombia, land line telephone, cell/mobile phone number and electronic mail.
  • Proof of having been domiciled in Colombia for a minimum period of one (1) year before submitting the request for recovery of Colombian nationality.
  • Four (4) photographs, facing the camera, against a white or blue background, both recent and identical, size 4x5 cm.
  • Photocopy of his/her citizenship card, if held, or a copy of his/her civil birth certificate.
  • Express authorization for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request a certificate of good conduct and judicial record.
  • Statement by the applicant of his/her wish to be notified by electronic mail.
  • Call for notification of the document of recovery of Colombian nationality from the Internal Nationality Working Group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Departmental Government or the respective consulate.
  • When this application for resumption also covers minors, the appropriate document proving the relationship or parental custody. In addition, he/she must submit four (4) photographs of each child, facing the camera and against a white or blue background, both recent and identical, size 4x5 cm.

Applicants are advised to attach a copy of the certification of  nationality or the resolution of registration proving that he/she had Colombian nationality by naturalization, as well as a copy of the document of renunciation of same.
