STUDENT
Art. 39 of Decree 4000 of 2004
DURATION: Up to one (1) year. It will be cancelled in the event of absence from Colombian territory for more than one hundred and eighty (180) days.
This VISA authorizes the holder to enter and remain in Colombia and is granted to a foreigner wishing to follow study courses in public or private educational establishments recognized by the Colombian National Government, to participate in student exchange programs or for work practice or as a trainee as an academic requirement in a study program.
COSTS
*Payment for the study is not refundable and will be valid only on the day on which payment is made; to present a new visa application, a new fee will be payable..
General Requirements:
- Presentation of visa application form DP-FO-67, completely filled out and signed by the foreign applicant and not by an intermediary.
- Valid passport or travel document, in good condition, with a minimum of two blank pages.
- Three (3) recent 3x3 cm identical full face photographs, in color and against a white background.
- Copy of the biographical details page of the passport and of the page showing the most recent Colombian visa, if any, and stamp of arrival in or departure from Colombia, as appropriate.
Specific Requirements
In addition to the general requirements, the following must be attached:
- Photocopy of the certificate of admission or enrolment issued by the educational establishment or an authentic photocopy of the agreement between the sponsor entity and the educational establishment in which it undertakes to accept the student under an inter-institutional agreement in the case of exchange students.
- Photocopy of the Resolution recognizing the legal corporate existence of the educational establishment and, if necessary, its operating license and registration with the competent education authority for the study program which the student is to follow. In the case of a private institution which only provides non-formal education, also referred to as education for work and human development. Official education centers are exempt from this requirement.
- Letter from the person who is to be economically responsible for the foreigner and documents showing the economic solvency of the holder or his/her parents or legal representative, or of the person guaranteeing coverage of the expenses of his/her stay in this country. Credit cards may be accepted as economic solvency attached to the bank statement or similar document showing that the amount assigned is sufficient for the student's subsistence.
- Certification or proof provided by the international organization, public or private entity which granted the scholarship in cases of scholarship students. The certificate of the holder's economic solvency or that of his/her parents must also be provided when the grant or scholarship is partial.
- In any event, in the case of minors, authorization or a special proxy of the parents and designation of the person responsible for the student during his stay in this country must be presented personally to the notary or Colombian consul, stating the respective duration.
- In the absence of the parents, the person who is responsible for the guardianship or personal care of the minor must sign. If the parents are not in national territory, the person duly authorized by them or by the corresponding authority must sign.
- The document stating that work practice or traineeship is an academic requirement in the study program in the case of student-trainees.
- When the studies are other than primary, secondary, technical, technological or higher, whether they are university undergraduate, postgraduate, master’s degree, university diploma or courses, certification or a document of the respective establishment, stating that the a minimum of ten (10) hours per week are required.
- Documents issued abroad must have an apostille or be legalized by a Colombian consul, as appropriate.
- Any document in a language other than Spanish must be officially translated into Spanish and the translator's signature must be duly legalized or with an apostille.
