APOSTILLE AND/OR LEGALIZATION

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has implemented an online Apostille and/Legalization request service for public documents that need to be valid abroad, in order to simplify the procedures and render a rapid and efficient service to the people. This, in compliance with the provisions of Decree Law 019 of 2012 and Resolution 4300 of 2012.

The new system allows the users to carry out the procedure online without having to visit the offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the local Governors to do so. The service is available to the public 24 hours a day and may be accessed from any location in Colombia and the rest of the world, thus reducing the cost and time invested by the users and making the service easier to access to those who for any reason are unable to request the apostille or legalization directly at one of the offices.

Remember that you may carry out the procedure yourself. No intermediaries are needed.

In Colombia, payment of the procedure’s fee may be made by PSE, Servibanca ATM and in all GNB Sudameris Bank branches nationwide. Payments abroad may be made directly at the Colombian Consulate or by PSE.

For further information on how to request an Apostille and/or Legalization abroad follow this link.

Consult the menu on the left for information concerning the types of documents that may be apostilled and/or legalized in order to be valid in Colombia, as well as their cost.

Documents issued by Colombian Consuls acting as Notary Public, such as authorizations, life certificates, special and general powers of attorney, public deeds, civil registrations and certifications DO NOT require legalization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, per Circular SGE/DMR N° 80 dated July 31, 2009.
